World Heritage Highlights 8/11

Actively experience the Sardona World Heritage Site

The Sardona World Heritage Trail crosses the Tectonic Arena Sardona from north to south in several day stages. On no other route in the world can the origin of the mountains be seen as clearly as on this hike.

The route leads through varied and unspoilt landscapes. Again and again, the Glarus Thrust can be admired from different perspectives. The Sardona World Heritage Trail offers a geological and natural experience – as a one-day tour, a weekend hike with overnight stay or as a 5-day hiking package including luggage transport.

The national hiking trail No. 1 crosses the Sardona World Heritage Site from east to west as Via GeoAlpina. A Swisstopo brochure on the Via GeoAlpina explains and presents ten selected geologically interesting sites.

Many other GeoTrails across the World Heritage region shed light on various geological facets.

With the Swisstopo geological hiking map at a scale of 1:50 000, you can experience particularly fascinating insights into the formation of our Alps.
